What are phytonutrients?
“Phytonutrient is a name for a variety of compounds produced in plants,” explains Dr. Trumbo. “Like vitamins and minerals, phytonutrients are found in fruits, vegetables, beans, and grains.” Vitamins and minerals are the essential building blocks of health, BUT phytonutrients help support thousands MORE health benefits only found in real greens.

How do we get phytonutrients?
Phytonutrients are present in both raw and cooked fruits, vegetables, beans and grains. And yet, “some phytonutrients can be damaged by heat, resulting in lower levels,” warns Dr.Trumbo. That is why our 8Greens products are created without heat or chemical processing, to maintain maximum phytonutrient, vitamin, and minerals. Think of each green tablet as a mega dose of veggies. “The only thing missing is water,” says Dr. Trumbo.

What are some of the most important phytonutrients?
“There are thousands of different phytonutrients,” says Dr. Trumbo. “The most important are those with scientific evidence.” Dr. Trumbo explains that the research on phytonutrients is ever growing – watch this space! “This includes lutein and zeaxanthin which are well known to be important for eye health and are found in a variety of green vegetables including spinach, kale and broccoli.”
